The photographs for this project were taken in 2007, shortly after a time spent in hospital. While in recovery at his parents’ house Sam began watching a lot of daytime television, especially the popular courtroom reality show Judge Judy. 

‘One day a defendant popped up that had a resemblance to one of my friends. As I was not able to see my friends at the time I decided to record it with my camera. Each day I had some new friends to hang out and I found new moments to capture. In reflection, I wish the series was bigger but once I got better I found the show pretty boring compared to participating in life’ — Sam Stephenson, 2015.
